Children usually start by attending our club training on a Thursday evening throughout the year
During the track season they then progress into participating in our three Club Open Meets at Millfield (instead of training on a Thursday evening) – This is great fun and gives them a first taste of competing in a very friendly environment.
Our club puts a lot of effort into supporting the South West League of which there are 5 events each on a Sunday during the track season. 4 of these carry points for the invididuals and for the club as a whole. Club prizes and awards are made by age group on the basis of points accumulated across these events. Parents are also encouraged to come along and participate in events or to support. Again these are very friendly events where children learn that taking part is fun.
During the winter X-country season, our younger members can participate in the Mendip Primary Schools Cross Country League. It includes Year 3/4 and 5/6 races with over 500 children from 25 different schools taking part at various venues during the season.
We also compete in the Wessex Cross Country League which includes races for U11’s to Masters.
For older members there are many schools and national competitions throughout the year, and the club also operates the Glastonbury Road Run yearly which is part of the Somerset Race Series.
Please view the links to the left for further information about competition opportunities. The coaches will also let you know of any suitable racing opportunities throughout the year.
